In the evolving digital landscape, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the North East of England face increasing pressure to stand out. From Newcastle and Sunderland to Durham and Middlesbrough, local businesses are competing for attention in both physical and digital marketplaces. One of the most effective tools available to help SMEs rise above the noise is promotional video content, find out more about our Promotional videos for SMEs in the North East.
đ The Growing Importance of Video Marketing
Consumers today are drawn to visual content more than ever. According to Wyzowlâs Video Marketing Statistics 2024, 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool, and 96% of marketers say video has helped increase user understanding of their product or service.
For SMEs, this represents a golden opportunity to:
- Showcase brand personality
- Build trust with potential customers
- Demonstrate products or services in action
- Boost search engine visibility
- Increase engagement across social channels
đŻ Why Video Works for SMEs Specifically
Unlike larger corporations, SMEs operate on leaner budgets and need marketing strategies that offer maximum ROI. Promotional videos help accomplish this by:
- Creating emotional connections with local audiences
- Driving conversions with persuasive storytelling
- Offering a reusable asset across websites, ads, and social platforms
- Allowing flexible formatsâshort reels, full promos, testimonials, and more
đ Why the North East Stands Out
From the cultural heartbeat of Newcastle to the coastal charm of Sunderland and the industrial strength of Teesside, the North East is packed with unique SME stories worth telling. But many local businesses have yet to harness the power of video to amplify their impact.
With the right local production partner, SMEs in the North East can benefit from:
- Region-specific storytelling that resonates with local consumers
- On-location filming that reflects your business environment
- Access to affordable, high-quality video production
- Local talent and partnerships for authentic representation
đ„ Types of Promotional Videos That Work
- Brand Overview Video â Share your mission, team, and ethos.
- Customer Testimonials â Build credibility with real feedback.
- Product Demos â Explain how your product solves problems.
- Behind-the-Scenes â Give a human touch to your operations.
- Event Coverage â Extend the life of live experiences.
đ SEO & Web Benefits of Video
Video content can improve your websiteâs performance in several ways:
- Increased time on page, reducing bounce rate
- Higher chances of ranking on Google (especially with video-rich snippets)
- Improved conversion rates on landing pages
- Increased shareability and backlink potential

Bupa Ad Campaign
Great to be shooting for Bupa on a new social media advertising campaign in Manchester, filmed at The Factory Studios (The Production Factory). With a tight schedule and a performance-led setup, the priority was to keep the day efficient while still delivering a clean, premium look that feels authentic on social.
For this shoot, we wanted the interviews to feel direct and personal. Social content works best when it feels like someone is speaking to you, not performing at you. So we built the approach around strong eye-lines, simple framing, and consistent lighting that kept attention on the message.
Production approach
To create a more intimate feel, we used the Eye Direct system. Itâs a periscope-style tool that sits in front of the camera and lets the interviewer maintain natural eye contact while still âlooking down the lensâ. At the same time, it encourages the interviewee to look straight to camera without feeling awkward. That direct-to-viewer style is often used in high-impact factual formats (for example, shows like SAS: Who Dares Wins) because it feels immediate and honest.
That choice also speeds up performance. Contributors settle faster, answers feel more natural, and the edit gets cleaner soundbites. As a result, the final film can land with more clarity and confidenceâespecially in short-form social placements.
Camera, lenses, and look
We shot on two Sony FS7s in 4K to keep coverage flexible and the pace moving. A two-camera setup means we can hold a consistent master while also capturing a second angle for variation, cut points, and emphasis. We paired the cameras with Zeiss Super Speed Mk III primes from Provision, which gave us a fast, cinematic feel and strong separation between subject and background.
To soften the image slightly and add a more flattering finish, we ran a 1/4 Black Pro-Mist in the matte boxes. That helped lift highlights gently and keep skin tones feeling natural, while still holding a clean, modern commercial look.

Production crew London support from Tomorrowâs Creative on a Toyota promo filmed on the UK coast in Frinton-on-Sea. The brief focused on high-energy lifestyle visuals with a bold seaside feel, built around movement, wind, water and a strong sense of place.
Because the shoot centred on kitesurfing, we planned for fast action and changing conditions. So we captured wide establishing shots to sell the coastline, then moved into tighter angles for detail. For example, we covered launches, board control, sprays of water, and reactions between runs. As a result, the edit had a strong mix of hero moments and flexible cutaways.
Production crew London for coastal location shoots
Coastal filming can shift quickly. Light changes, wind direction moves, and the action travels across the beach. Therefore, we worked with a flexible setup and repositioned quickly when needed. We also kept communication clear with talent and the wider team, especially during active kitesurf sequences. That kept the day efficient and helped maintain continuity from shot to shot.
Camera coverage and visual approach
We shot on Canon kit to deliver a clean commercial look with reliable performance on location. We aimed for natural colour, crisp detail and punchy contrast, while still keeping skin tones flattering. In addition, we captured plenty of atmospheric b-roll: shoreline textures, wind movement, sea detail, and scenic wides for smooth transitions. This approach made the final film feel energetic, but still polished.
Deliverables
The footage supported a promotional edit for Toyota, with enough variety for a main cut and shorter social-first versions. So we made sure to capture alternative angles, safety takes and extra inserts throughout the day. Ultimately, that gave the editor more options and protected the story in the cut.

Director of Photography London: Tomorrowâs Creative provided DoP support, crew, and a full camera package for a new Topshop promotional video for the Air Cushion Skin Perfector.
This social-first promo needed clean, confident visuals that read fast in a feed. So we focused on flattering light, crisp detail, and a smooth beauty finish. We also kept the framing simple. That way, the product and talent stayed front and centre in every shot.
Director of Photography London for beauty and fashion content
Beauty films live or die on tone, texture, and consistency. Therefore, we built a look that felt premium without feeling heavy. We aimed for natural skin tones and controlled highlights. We also captured a mix of hero shots and supporting cutaways. As a result, the edit team had plenty of options for different timings and placements.
Production details (London)
We shot at Loft Studios in London across two days. The schedule moved quickly, so we planned lighting setups that could adapt fast. In addition, we kept camera movement purposeful. That helped us maintain pace while protecting the clean commercial style.
For this job, we used two ARRI Amira cameras with Zeiss Cinema Zoom lenses. This combo gave us a cinematic image and reliable flexibility. It also helped us match angles and exposure across setups. Because of that, the footage stayed consistent from scene to scene.
Creative + deliverables
James Melrose worked as Director of Photography London on the shoot. Katie Freestone at Topshop directed and edited the project. Together, the team kept the film sharp, stylish, and on-brand.
The final deliverable targeted a 30â60 second runtime for social channels. So we captured clean product moments, strong portraits, and extra inserts for cutdowns. If youâre planning a similar campaign and need a Director of Photography in London, we can support with crew, kit, and a streamlined workflow.
