Music video director of photography for “Shiver” (Corolla)

Music video director of photography services for “Shiver” by Watford-based indie band Corolla — a dance-led love story told through performance, composition, and cinematic movement. From the very first beat, we shaped the visuals to match the emotion of the track, so the story feels clear and immediate.

We produced this film with Theatre on Wax, and we supported the project from planning through to post. Because the narrative centres on two unlikely lovers (a polar bear and a penguin), we leaned into expressive framing and purposeful movement. As a result, the choreography feels cinematic while the performances still feel honest.

Our approach to music video cinematography

As music video director of photography, we focused on one thing: make the dance feel natural on camera, but elevate it with a strong visual language. Therefore, we built lighting that stays controlled and consistent across setups, while also leaving room for energy and spontaneity. Meanwhile, our camera movement follows the dancers and guides the viewer, rather than distracting from the performance.

We also balanced coverage carefully. For example, we used close-ups to create intimacy and show emotion, and then we switched to wider frames to sell the space, staging, and rhythm of the choreography. In addition, we captured extra atmosphere and detail so the edit could breathe between key moments.

We shot the video over two shoot days just outside of Watford. That schedule kept things efficient, and it also gave us enough time to capture clean performance coverage plus the story moments the concept needed.

Kit & post workflow (music video DOP package)

We built the shoot around a Sony FS7 camera package with a 70–200mm zoom for expressive close-ups and compressed performance frames. We ran on-set monitoring via Teradek Bolt 300, so the director and team could check framing and timing quickly. We also used a Fotga DP II matte box to keep contrast consistent and maintain control across lighting changes.

After the shoot, we handled the edit and finishing on a Mac Pro 5K workstation. Consequently, we moved fast through revisions, tightened the pacing, and matched the final colour grade across the full film.
