A London Video Production MOTDx Project
Filming the MOTDx segment with Jay1 and James Maddison at Kennington Studios was an exciting London video production MOTDx project. It showcased the energy and creativity the show is known for. As the Director of Photography (DOP), I managed a three-camera multicam setup using Sony FS7 cameras. These cameras are trusted in professional video production for their crisp image quality, versatility, and ability to handle fast-paced shoots.
Creating a Distinct Studio Look
The challenge was to design a workflow that delivered a stylised studio feel while keeping the polished look MOTDx requires. In addition, shooting in S-Log3 Cine gave us wide dynamic range and flexibility in grading. One FS7 was positioned high and wide to capture the whole set. Meanwhile, the second and third cameras focused tightly on dialogue, reactions, and unscripted moments.
Why Kennington Studios Was Perfect
Kennington Studios in London offered the ideal setting for this type of London video shoot. The space was large enough for a high-energy look but intimate enough to keep interactions natural. As a result, the studio gave us both scale and authenticity. Working with the lighting team, we created a vibrant, high-contrast style that reflected the energy of street football while staying broadcast-ready.
Chemistry That Brought the Shoot Alive
The highlight of the production was the chemistry between Jay1 and James Maddison. For example, Jay1’s line “Bruv! He’s so good!” gave us authentic, unscripted moments. Therefore, we made sure to capture every reaction from multiple angles. MOTDx thrives on this mix of sport, culture, and music. Ultimately, with expert DOP work, the production delivered sharp and dynamic visuals.
The Final Result
In conclusion, the result was a lively and engaging segment that reflects the very best of London video production.
