Toy Auctioneers Documentary: Scouting for Toys
A New Series on Yesterday Channel
Scouting for Toys is the brand-new toy auctioneers documentary that goes behind the scenes at the world’s largest toy auctioneers. The series begins at 9pm on Thursday 31st March on the Yesterday channel. It promises to take viewers on a nostalgic journey back to childhood.
Inside Vectis Auctions
Narrated by Kirsten O’Brien, the programme follows Vectis Toys Auctioneers in Teesside. This world-renowned auction house attracts buyers and sellers from across the globe. Collectors come to trade everything from Star Wars figures and rare action heroes to vintage dolls and model trains.
At Vectis, no two auctions are the same. Some toys smash past their guide price, while others fail to reach their reserve. As a result, every sale is full of surprises and drama.
The Work Behind the Sales
The series also shows how the Vectis team prepares for each auction. Experts value, catalogue, and present the toys with precision. Along the way, viewers meet passionate collectors. Many have spent decades building their collections, only to face the emotional decision to let them go.
These stories highlight the mix of nostalgia, fandom, and history that fuels the world of toy collecting.
Episode One: A Star Wars Farewell
The first episode of the toy auctioneers documentary, airing on Thursday 31st March at 9pm, focuses on TV and film memorabilia. At the heart of the sale is a vast Star Wars collection built by fan Declan.
Declan was diagnosed with MS at 27 but continued to collect passionately. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year. His brother Kieran has now brought the collection to auction. It is both a farewell and a chance to share the items with a new generation.
Vectis’ Star Wars specialist, Nick Dykes, explains which pieces are most valuable and why.
Filming the Story
The documentary was filmed in Stockton using a Sony FS7 camera package. Crew support came through self-shooting PD services, ensuring authenticity and cinematic quality.
More Than Just Toys
In the end, Scouting for Toys is more than an auction show. It combines nostalgia, history, and human emotion. Above all, it reveals how beloved childhood items continue to connect generations.
